Debbie Clolinger-Hill, owner and designer of Deb's Designs of Mobile, was born in North Carolina, but also lived in Virginia and California. She calls Mobile, Alabama her hometown.
Debbie received her bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of South Alabama. Her first professional career was primarily in education, public relations, marketing, and special events.
The road to hatmaking started in 2021, when she found enjoyment in the hobby of making headbands and simple fascinators, particularly during Mobile's Mardi Gras festivities and Kentucky Derby events. Soon she started getting calls and texts for orders. In 2022 she applied for a business license to open Deb's Designs of Mobile, and invested in millinery equipment and professional classes.
Word spread of her talent through social media, and in 2024 she was featured in the online journal AL.com's The Lede, as "Mobile's Up and Coming Milliner." This year, 2026, she was featured on WKRG's (CBS) newscast, "Elegance and sophistication: Mobile Milliner demonstrates process of her head-turnng hats". She was also commissioned by the 2026 Queen of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association, Dr. Kena Lane to design and create her motorcade and luncheon hats.
Debbie has been the guest speaker for many organizations, demonstrating and educating people about the art of millinery. She is also a member of the British Millinery Association, and a student of the KE Business and Millinery Academy.
When not making hats, Debbie leads a very active lifestyle with biking, hiking, snow skiing and kayaking. Debbie married Benoit Hill in 2023, and enjoys being a new grandmother to her daughter and son-in-law's firstborn son, Adam.
